The C.E.L.L Mission is to provide relevant, up-to-date and high-quality educational reference material to Cytology professionals, including Cytology Program Directors, practicing Cytotechnologists, and current cytology students, practicing cytopathologists, cytopathology fellows, and pathology residents.

Meet the Committee

Sean McNair, MPH, CT(ASCP)

Committee Chair

Sean McNair, MPH, CT(ASCP), is the Program Director for the CUNY Hunter College Advanced Certificate in Cytotechnology program in New York City. He also serves as the Cytology Education Coordinator for the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Keisha Burnett, EdD, SCT (ASCP)MB

Keisha Burnett, EdD, SCT (ASCP)MB, is currently the program director and education coordinator for the Master of Cytopathology Practice Program at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, TN. Dr. Burnett served as President of the American Society for Cytotechnology (ASCT) in 2014-15 and has served on several committees in the American Society of Cytopathology (ASC).

Gregory Freund, MD

Gregory Freund, MD, is the Chief of Cytopathology at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. He is also a physician-scientist who has investigated the neuroimmune consequences of anxiety and depressive disorders for nearly three decades. Dr. Freund serves on the Cytotechnology Programs Review Committee (CPRC).

Josh Howell, MAOL, SCT(ASCP)CM

Josh Howell, MAOL, SCT(ASCP) CM is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He serves as the Education Coordinator for the IUSM Cytotechnology Program and also works as a consultant for ASCT Services, Inc.

Daniel F.I. Kurtycz, MD

Daniel F.I. Kurtycz, MD, is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health. He has numerous publications and sits on a number of editorial boards.

Kelly Lennen, MS, CT (ASCP)CM

Kelly Lennen, MS, CT (ASCP) CM is the Program Director of the Cytotechnology and Cell Sciences program at Thomas Jefferson University.  She serves on the PEC Cytotechnology Subcommittee.

Margee Muciarelli, BS, CT(ASCP)

Margee Muciarelli, BS, CT(ASCP), is the Administrative Director of Pathology & Laboratory Services for Eskenazi Health in Indianapolis, IN.  She is also a Survey Team Leader for ASCT Services, Inc.  She currently serves as the President Elect for ASCT.

Maheswari Mukherjee, PhD, MSc, BPT, CT (ASCP)CM

Dr. Mukherjee is the Director and Associate Professor of the Diagnostic Cytology Program in the College of Allied Health Professions, University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Lois Rockson, PHD

Lois Rockson, PHD, is the Program Director of the Rutgers School of Health Professions’ Masters in Diagnostic Cytopathology Program.

Donna Russell, MEd, CT(ASC)HT, CFIAC

Donna Russell, MEd, CT(ASC)HT, CFIAC, is the Education Coordinator for UR Medicine Residency/Fellowship Cytopathology Training in Rochester, NY and the Program Director of the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center/Daemen University MS in Cytology Program in Buffalo, NY.

Michele Smith, MS SCT(ASCP)

Michele Smith, MS SCT(ASCP), is the program manager for the M.S. in Biotechnology, M.S. in Applied Biotechnology, and Certificates in Applied Bioinformatics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She also is part of the Mentor/Mentee program with the Women in BioHealth group in Madison.

Charles Sturgis, MD

Charles Sturgis, MD, is a Professor of Pathology and the Director of the Pathology Residency Training Program at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He is the author of more than 100 peer-reviewed manuscript publications, book chapters, editorials, educational writings, medical photographs, instructional videos, and abstracts. He currently serves as Chair of the Cytotechnology Programs Review Committee (CPRC).

Dawn Underwood, MEd, CT(ASCP)

Dawn Underwood, MEd, CT(ASCP), is the cytology manager at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland OH. She is a mentor for the Cleveland Clinic School of Cytotechnology. She has served on several ASC committees since 2003.
